“Grandmothers are just “antique” little girls. “-Author Unknown
Wow! My grandma is an 82 year old antique little girl already! Haha! And with that being said, the whole family decided to throw a little Sunday lunch and a Pua Tiong Chiu game for the Mid-Autumn Festival.#BecauseChinese So here are the food we bought for our little Sunday family pot luck lunch! But before heading on to the food, I’d just ike to share a few facts about my lola. 1) she is the most honest and frank person that I know. 2) She is funny especially when she’s giving her opinions, 3) she loves dogs and loves aruging with the tv. 4) Although she tends to repeat the same question 5 times in 3 minutes, like asking what’s our ulam for the day and repetitively feeding her dogs and watering her plants every now and then. 5) She remains the same loving and kind lola that me and my cousins grew up with.
In our family, we have a lunch or dinner together, we would always bring something to add to our food. So for our contribution, we decided to buy Spaghetti from Amber and an Estrel’s Caramel Cake.
It was my first time go visit Amber’s new location at 103 Tomas Morato corner Scout Limbaga Brgy. Laging Handa, Quezon City. It far better than the old one, more clean and it looks more open and organized. Although we were just 11, we ordered their Spaghetti with Meat sauce that’s good for 15 persons. (750php) #NoShame! haha! Walang natira, bitin pa nga eh. #Fatlyf
We all love this spaghetti so, yeah this is a no-fail choice for us! It’s sooooo good! I like their Spaghetti better than their Pancit Malabon. *See those cheese? Yes, that is my favorite part..Cheese is lyf… haha! It tastes like the spaghetti your mom used to make when you were little! which I think makes it super comforting.
Next, we went to Estrel’s to buy some cake! Okay, first of.. if you don’t know what Estrel’s and their Caramel Cake is, then what are you doing with your life? Also in their newly renovated home at 54 Sct. Tobias St, Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila (fun fact: the Estrel’s store is just on the ground floor of the owners house. Imagine what their house must smells like?). The house was lovely, from the facade to the interiors of the place was just so inviting and classy. To best describe the house was “simple but tastefully done”. Also a piece of advice if it’s your first time to buy cakes from them..It’s hard to get a cake here especially if you didn’t order it in advance. Because once their stocks for walk-in clients are sold out, they won’t restock anymore. Bukas ka nlng ulit. And we decided to give it a try since we didn’t have enough time to place an order in advance and luckily, we were still able to get a cake! 🙂
We ordered one 8″ Caramel Chiffon Cake (700php). The cake was so jiggly, hahaha! it’s so soft and not too sweet which I like in cakes. It also has a nice and moist chiffon cake base. Although what I didn’t like much about this was the slight lemon flavor that kind of confuses me if the caramel had the lemon flavor or the cake itself. What’s good about their cake is that the flower designs are made from fluffy and silky buttercream which is amazing! and aside from the cake, it is also one of their signature trademark.
Good thing we didn’t wait that long for our cake to be done! This cake is really amazing! No wonder they’re selling their Caramel Chiffon Cake since 1946.
When we went to our cousin’s house to bring the food we bought, we saw these amazing food being prepared at the table.
Over-all of course all of the food was great! It’s nice to eat all together as a family and to just laugh and share stories while eating. 🙂 Everything was my favorite!
Of course a food-loving family like ours can’t forget to have dessert. 🙂
The cake from Manila Pen was good! I liked it more than the Estrel’s cake. It had the right amount of bitterness from the dark chocolate and it wasn’t that sweet too! #MasarapMagingBitter hahaa! joke!
After clearing up the table and washing the dishes, we now proceeded with our Pua Tiong Chiu!
To bad I didn’t win the grand prize but it was okay since my niece who’s a toddler won.
It was indeed the perfect Sunday to spend time with the family and to appreciate our lola more. Since we lost our other grandma 2 months ago. I remember her saying that she still wants to see us with our kids and asking if she would still reach 90 years old. We are all grateful because she is still strong at her age. And I wish nothing but the best for her.. good health and just continue to be the loving lola that she is.
We love you lola! We are so blessed to have you in our lives. 🙂 Happy Birthday!
Cheers to our loving grandparents who never failed to love us and to spending more time with our family!
